While Ryan's legal practice has spanned a variety of areas including civil, criminal, and bankruptcy, many of his cases have been the ones handled in Family Court. These cases include adoptions, dissolution of marriage, child custody, and dependency/neglect/abuse cases. However, it's Ryan's experience in life that will give him a unique perspective from the bench.

Ryan is married and has five children, four sons and a daughter. He and his family are active in their church and their community and strive to serve others. Ryan's wife is connected to the youth of the our area as the sports correspondent employed through Paxton Media for the Marshall County Tribune-Courier, and she is a classically trained vocalist. Their oldest son is in the USCG. They have twin sons that are 2017 Marshall County High School graduates, one of which is a rising senior at Transylvania University in Lexington, and the other is a United States Air Force ROTC student at the University of Kentucky. His three oldest have completed international mission trips and all have been active in scholastic athletics. Their family also hosted an international student from Korea for the last year and a half of his high school education.

Ryan's father retired as a union instrument mechanic at Ashland in Calvert City, one grandfather that retired as a union pipe-fitter, and another that retired as a union electrical worker for TVA. Ryan has been a member of OCAW and PACE labor unions in the past, upholding a heritage of protecting the rights of others and fostering a strong work ethic. Ryan's mother is retired from a career in sales and decorating.

Ryan grew up in Western Kentucky. During his first year of college in 1990, Ryan became a volunteer firefighter and in 1991 was certified as an emergency medical technician, starting his life of service to community. In 1995, while a firefighter in Lexington (KY), Ryan was licensed as a Paramedic, a credential that would lead him to work on the medical staff at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Ryan later worked as a paramedic for Mercy EMS in Paducah and then as a firefighter/haz-mat tech/ems provider at the USEC plant in West Paducah. While at USEC, Ryan finished his degree graduating cum laude with a Bachelors in Fire Administration. It was during that coursework that Ryan develop an interest in the law and began his transition into the legal field.

Ryan attended Southern Illinois University's School of Law. While in law school, Ryan continued to support his family and serve his community by working as a Paramedic. Ryan's transition was complete when he left his role as Base Flight Paramedic Supervisor with Air Evac in Marion, IL to dedicate his time to his legal practice.
